WSOP Main Event results: How Illinois players fared at Las Vegas poker event

The world’s most prestigious poker tournament began over July 4 weekend, and we’re following the Illinois still playing in the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.
The $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event attracted a record 10,112 players, surpassing the previous record of 10,043 set last year. A total of 1,517 players will win money in the no-limit hold-em world championship this year, including $10 million and the WSOP bracelet for first place.

How many players are left in the WSOP Main Event?
A total of three players remain in the field heading into play on Wednesday’s final day, including one from the state of Illinois: Jordan Griff of Schaumburg, now a resident of Arizona. He will earn $4,000,000 or more depending on his finish. Chip leader is Swedish player Niklas Astedt (223 million), followed by Texan Jonathan Tamayo (197 million) and Griff (187 million).
The money bubble for the 2024 WSOP Main Event hit very early into play last week. Two players from the Peoria area were eliminated and finished in the money: Darren Rankin of Peoria (687th place, $27,500) and Steve Rassi of Morton (1,444th place, $15,000).

Of those cashing in 2023, 46 players were listed as being from Illinois. Chicago player Ryan Tosoc took 25th overall and Chicago’s Henry Chan was 31st. Tosoc earned $345,000 for his finish and Chan $280,100.
